Why Choose Us?
Why do organs &
tissue need air transport?
In short, time is always of the essence when an organ or tissue is needed for a transplant. There are so many factors that can determine how urgent a transport may be, but we take all of these into account to get the organ there on time, every time for our patients. Sometimes driving an organ will take too long and it may no longer be viable by the time it reaches its destination. In those situations, organ & tissue air transport is the best way to get it there on time.
According to the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) approximately 79 lives are saved every day thanks to organ transplant surgeries. Every minute counts in the journey and we work tirelessly to decrease our travel times and admin times to ensure the organ or tissue arrives at the delivery facility as quickly as possible.
What accommodations need to be made to transport organs?
Every case is unique and will require a unique transportation plan in place to help facilitate the transport in a timely fashion. Depending on where the organ is, and where it needs to go, our team can provide you with more information to help you plan the transport. Our aircraft are specially equipped for organ & tissue air transport and will be able to take care of your needs. Contact us today to see how we can help.
What is an Organ
Transplant?
A highly specialized treatment that is required in many cases when an organ fails due to a medical condition. This can be limited to a single organ, or multiple organs both vital or not vital. The most commonly referenced organ transplants are kidney transplants due to the wider availability thanks to the human body’s ability to survive with only one of the two kidneys. Preservation times are also longer with kidneys than any other vital organ.
Some organs that can be transplanted include:
- Vascularized composite allografts (VCAs), including hand and face transplants.
Who manages the
Transplant system?
All organ transplants in the United States is managed by the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). UNOS is a private, non-profit organization that regulates and monitors the process for organ transplants. Organ & Tissue air transport is monitored and regulated by the Organ Procurement & Transplantation Network (OPTN).
